Well taken. I suspect there were many flies around this honey pot. My feeling, though, is that if the prime ones had been Russian, US authorities might have handled this affair differently and indeed more punitively. Letting it run had several virtues, including catching more flies. But a Russian angle would have altered the stakes. Further, though I will always be deeply grateful to Alan Dershowitz for brilliantly and graciously representing me in my battle with the government in the 197Os, his deep emotional attachment to Israel and his legal efforts on Epstein's behalf in the plea negotiatons years ago bear consideration in this context, if only because Alan and Epstein seem ill matched on so many levels. Alan has recently asserted publicly that there is no client list floating around and nothing but dismissable conspiracy theories linking Epstein to foreign intelligence. But Alan taught me to watch how lawyers parse their words. He has also acknowledged publicly that some "names" came up in now sealed FBI interviews though none, he said, implicated current public officials. Out of abiding gratitude to my old attorney, I will leave it to others to pursue these leads if indeed there is anything to pursue.

The plot, as it thickens , becomes more and more murky. And though a couple of key players are dead, it seems there are still enough around to clear up a few details, were they inclined (or allowed) to do so. This feels like one of those scenarios where the whole truth will never be known .

An excellent post. Sometime soon the Israeli connection will come to the forefront, quite possibly if it dawns on the Trump White House that you can't get tooth paste back into the tube. But if you look at the Robert Maxwell connection, the name of Samuel Pisar emerges. He was a close confidant of Maxwell and possibly the last person to talk to him before he slipped off his yacht into the sea. Pisar then accompanied his friend's body back to Jerusalem. Pisar still enjoys a pristine reputation as an international lawyer - unfortunately - his stepson Anthony Blinken does not. (KGB trained Vladimir Putin must be laughing his head off)

I am reminded of the Spy Who Came in from the Cold and how a lame attempt to bring down Mundt actually saved him (for a while). And the Steele report was a discredited attempt and now this "There is no clients list" nonsense will clear Trump? Again? If there is reason to suspect something, most of the people involved are still alive and open to questions. Who would really keep a "client list?" I see a "red herring." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Spy_Who_Came_in_from_the_Cold

Great post, Frank, and thank you for exploring the intelligence angle. I’m disappointed, though, that the focus of this angle has consistently been on Ghislaine Maxwell’s father, Robert, and his ties to Israel’s Mossad. It’s rarely mentioned that Mr. Maxwell also maintained relations with the KGB, and that Ghislaine herself was connected to a KGB officer while in the UK. Of particular interest is Ghislaine’s French ancestry and connections. The KGB officer previously mentioned had infiltrated the CIA and spent time stationed in Paris.
